Part One: An Introduction to the 12th House, Twelfth House Astrology Series

Note: On May 18th, I decided to assign Virgo to Vesta and therefore the 6th house is ruled by Vesta and is opposite the 12th house.  Reading over what I wrote here back on April 29th, I can see how Vesta is the 12th house’s counterpart / opposite!

The twelfth house is the house of the broken soul and non-self, the secret or magical self. It’s the house of  fog and gases, the intangible that can not be held, seen, factually verifiable yet often heard and recognized. This is the house of soul as a *pathway*, the soul as a *conduit* to our dreams. And sometimes that soul or psyche breaks down and we need to heal and this is the house where that is taken care of. The twelfth house sets the stage for the realization that we are all “one”, all in it together.  This is the House of “under-work” to the point of inertia, to the point where it can destroy one’s psyche if left unobserved. It’s a water house that deals with the arcane and the dream-world which are crucial to Neptunian ideals.

Facts about the 12th House.

  • Ruled by *Neptune (Pisces). A Cadent house.
  • House Axis: 12 /6 Polarity
  • Aspect / Planet – Sign: (Pisces) Neptune Opposition Mercury (Virgo) The JMAD Swap: Neptune Virgo / Mercury Pisces.  Update – May 18th: (Pisces) Neptune Opposition Vesta (Virgo).  Pisces is in Sextile with Taurus (the 2nd house) and Capricorn (10th house); therefore, these houses stimulate and piggy-back off of each other. The 12th house is also in harmony (trine) with the 4th and 8th house which completes the primary “internal and psychological” themes in a natives life.
  • Everyone has 12th house themes. This is the House of The Secret Self or when house ownership is taken, it can be viewed as The House of the Higher or Magical Self.

Part One: An Introduction to the 10th House, Tenth House Astrology Series

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out? – Dr. Seuss”

The tenth house is the House that shows off our public self. It is the house of our career and future.  It’s our inner depth manifested externally. It’s where truth and lies intermingle. The tenth house is where others will allow or disallow us to make a good living.  This is where they will support or obstruct, delay our financial endeavours through our daily tasks and what we are naturally good at.

The tenth house is the house of aspirations and the public self. It’s the house of  solids, the tangible that can be held, seen, factually verifiable, heard and recognized. This is the house of achievement, legacy, and what we are prepared to share with the world. The tenth house is where we find our career, what the public will encourage, support, or naturally see us doing.  This is the House of “work” to the point of success, to the point of where it can uplift and define one’s destiny. On the flip-side, it can be where we work to the point of failure and where we feel defeated.  The tenth house is what we are born to achieve and where we lead.  And we continue working towards becoming a complete success or failure, as it relates to 10th house matters, throughout our whole lives.  A marked achievement or realization of what we are here to do tends to occur after or near one’s Saturn Return (28-30) and the height of achievement generally happens between the ages of 58-60, during one’s Second Saturn Return. We have about 30 years to begin, define, and complete our social standing.  It’s an earth house that deals with known and ideal social conditions.

    Facts about the 10th House.

    • Ruled by Saturn (Capricorn). An Angular house.
    • House Axis: 10 /4 Polarity
    • Aspect / Planet – Sign: (Capricorn) Saturn Opposition Moon (Cancer)
    • The JMAD Swap: Saturn Cancer /Moon Capricorn.  Our parents or male/female care-givers. Capricorn is Sextile Pisces (the 12nd house) and Scorpio (8th house); therefore, these houses stimulate and piggy-back off of each other and themes of Neptune (illusion) and Pluto (power) are at play. The 10th house is also in harmony (trine) with the 2nd and 6th house which completes the primary “internal and psychological” themes in a natives life.
    • Everyone has 10th house themes. This is the House of The Public Self or when house ownership is taken, it can be viewed as The House of Self-Actualization.
    • 10th House: See me and what I have created. (an open door) Fourth House: Don’t see me and what was created before me. (behind closed doors)
    • House Themes: Career & Aspiration, Public Image & Persona, Parents (especially father or the disciplinarian), Duty & Obligations, Social Law, Corporations
    • Midheaven:  Connected to the MC, the highest point of the zodiac wheel.

    10th House Themes

    • House of Career & Aspiration:What we want to become known for.  How and why we shine. What we can get paid easily for. Who we want to serve in public.  How we want to serve others in public. Potential careers.  Type of career success we’ll have.  What we strive for.  Our highest potential.
    • House of Public Image & Persona:  Politics.  How we are perceived.  What people think about us. Status. How we are seen or not seen.  Under what conditions we may become famous or infamous.
    • House of Parents: Careers, special skills and aptitudes we inherit from our parents, mother, or father. The father or male energy is involved in this house if the planets Sun, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, or Uranus are involved. The mother or female energy is involved in this house if the planets Moon, Venus, Jupiter, or Neptune are involved. Pluto may represent male or female energy.
    • House of Duty & Obligations: Our mission. What we are compelled to do.  What we feel we owe the world or the parent(s) (that is represented by this house) to accomplish. Legacy. Contributions to society. How our karma resolves itself. Achievements that the parents made or didn’t make can be also projected onto the native in this house.  This is where the native feels they need to prove their worth and make their parent(parents) proud or where the native wants to fulfill the “new” destiny beyond 4th house roots that the parent(s) didn’t fulfill for themselves.
    • House of Social Law: How one is suppose to act.  How well we adhere to social conduct rules. How we need to operate within the world of work to find success. How we are accepted or the judgement we receive from others based on how others believe we are operating.
    • House of Corporations: Describes the type of organizations or industry we would like to or work within.  Who and what type of organization or group signs our paycheques or pays us.

I found this a hard house to connect with.  Could it be my Neptune in the 10th that’s having a problem clarifying it?  Or perhaps it’s my own lack of focused and direct success that’s making me shy away from this topic.  A weird veil being put on since I haven’t found the solution for success yet. I feel a sense that when it comes to doing the ‘signs and planets’ in this house, that I won’t be able to shut up about it.  🙂 Anyway, hope this is enough to chew on, for now…

Note: On May 18th, I decided to assign Virgo to Vesta and therefore the 6th house is ruled by Vesta.  Reading over what I wrote here back on April 15th, Vesta is very much present — much more than Mercury (in fact)!

The sixth house is the house where things are fixed and done.  It’s the house of solids, things that are tangible and that can be held, seen, factually verifiable yet often unheard and unrecognized.  This is the house of body as a *machine*, the body as a *tool* to get things done. And sometimes that body or work breaks down and we need to repair and re-build and this is the house where we take care of that.  The sixth house sets the stage for work to *begin*.  “Working tirelessly” is an oxymoron in this house.   This is the house of “over-work” to the point of exhaustion, to the point where it can destroy one’s body if left unobserved.  It’s an earthly house that deals with mundane and necessary activities which are crucial to surviving a Saturnian society.

      Facts about the 6th House.

      • Ruled by *Mercury (Virgo). A Cadent house.

What kind of friend are you? What type of friends do you like? Do your friends help you? Are you into politics and activism? What are your hopes and dreams? You’ll find it in the 11th house. Sounds interesting but don’t know what this article is all about? Book a session: http://www.KnowTheWay.ca 🙂

‘The Eleventh house is the House of our public camaraderie, friendship, hopes & dreams, social & political influence, networks, and associations. It is the house of friendly and detached relating. For the people, by the people!

The Eleventh house is the House that connects others in non-intimate ways.  Having planets in this house makes the native more influential and aspects to and from this house shows whether that influence is harmonious or disharmonious. This house shows your influence upon others (public me section of the horoscope) and how it can help or hinder your worldly connections and aspirations. It’s also the place where we connect to the masses, to group-think.  How much or little you do this, depends on what’s in or not in your eleventh house. Will you follow the trend or will you go your own way? This is the house of teenagers too as Uranus represents youth and rebellion but group rebellion that you agree with. Being friendly with Aries and the first house, this house is also where a movement or trend can originate and spread. While the tenth is how others see you, your highest point that you can achieve, the eleventh (and ninth) will help you get there.  If you don’t have anything in the tenth, look to the eleventh to help you reach your highest self in the public eye.

        Facts about the 11th House.

        • Motto: I know
        • House Axis: 11 /5
        • Aspect / Planet – Sign: (Aquarius) Uranus Opposition Sun (Leo)
        • The JMAD Swap: Uranus Leo /Sun Aquarius.  Aquarius is sextile to Sagittarius — 9th house (the higher mind, philosophy, religion, education, law, culture, long-distance travel) and Aries — 1st house (self, physical expression and health, initiative, winning & attracting, and how we enter and exit).  These houses stimulate and piggy-back off of each other. The 11th house is also in harmony (trine) with the 7th (Libra / Juno — committed and legal partnerships, aesthetics, domination & submission, attraction and detraction, etc.) and the 3rd (Gemini — the lower mind, those that surround us, short trips such as marches).

Who, what, why, where, when, and how?

        • House of Friendship: Where camaraderie reigns. The types of friends you like. Who your friends are and how they benefit you. Your allies. Like minded people.  Simpatico. Also Aquarius and Uranus is quirky and this is where differences are more accepted as friendships are distant and more detached.  You don’t have to spend all day and all night with your friends and sometimes an occasional quirk adds something to the friendship.
        • House of Association: Co-operatives and co-operative housing. Political delegates.  Being a member of something. Who or what you want to associate with.
        • House of Networks: Social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Livejournal, etc. Networks also can relate to your relationship with technology, phones, the Internet, etc. How you use technology to connect with a wide and diverse group of people.
        • House of Outside Support: The type of help you’ll get.  Who will help you.  How they will help you. How much help you’ll get. What type of support and affection is given to you.
        • House of Hopes & Dreams: It tells how well the 10th house has served you.  It also tells of what else you want to accomplish or do beyond what you have done in the 10th house. It can also speak of what you earn from 10th house activities since Saturn is the co-ruler of this house and your friends can help you further your dreams.  “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” But it’s actually both in this house.
        • House of Dissemination of Information: How you like to share what you know.  How others will or will not share what you know.
        • House of Activism & Politics: Your beefs and how you get others engaged in them.  Rallies. Your political interest and type of party you align with and why. With whom and how you connect with the issues of the world at-large as well as your own issues.

The Star Tarot Card. Ruled by Aquarius. It often represents one's hopes and wishes (amongst other things).

        About Me

I have Sag on the cusp of the 11th.  The house is ruled by Jupiter and Jupiter is in my 9th. I have no planets in the 11th house.
I’m very independent and a free-spirit. I don’t need friends to define me and I like to spend a lot of time alone too.  Sometimes groups or group conversation can be overwhelming if done for too long and when I’m in a group, I tend to hang back and let others lead the way but I’m not too entirely happy with that scenario.

I like friends who give me as much space as I need and I give them space too.  I like to talk about all things Jupiter Libra in the 9th: Art, fashion, photography, philosophy, justice (what’s right and wrong), relationships, long distance travel, fitness, religion & spirituality, and culture. These kinds of things make me incredibly happy to talk about with my friends. I also love sharing knowledge with friends and can be a bit of a ‘teacher’ but I like being a ‘student’ too so it comes from a well-intentioned place.

I tend to welcome everyone in and I won a sash that says:  Little Miss Multi-cultural. Well, not really but I used to joke about that as a kid because I don’t have one strong ethnicity or race that I identify with.  I’m mixed! And so I just take in everything as a possibility…

What type of friends do I make?  Generally long-distance ones with other free-spirits and I tend to be one-on-one. I’m now getting that that makes a lot of sense.  It’s like I say to people who get into relationships: If you are in a long-distance one, you probably aren’t ready for an in-your-face one.

So long distance friends are probably the barrier I create so I can logically have my space.  Of course, for various reasons this distance can either annoy them, me, or both.  It’s unlikely I’ll meet any long distance friend any time soon.  In fact, I don’t like to get ‘too involved’ with my friends (this isn’t the seventh house, after-all).  And I don’t want this to be a brush-off either because I do love my friends.

And, of course, not being so invested in friends (or wanting them to be too invested in me in an attached way) is a problem when I’m seeking support and dissemination of information that I would like a mass amount of people to obtain. In other words, I’m no social media guru. But I do care about all my friends so when they don’t help when I’m in need, I do get a bit sullen about that.

Many-a-friend seem to desire more out of me in this house and they can desert me if they don’t get what they want.  That is upsetting.  I love my friends but I’m just so busy being me (and that’s a me that does for many others) that I can’t have that type of intense connection going on unless it’s with one or two people (7th house).

I’m a whatever happens happens kind of girl in the world of the 11th house.

What type of friends do I like? I like positive, happy, thoughtful or generous, and expansive friends who stand for something.  Friends who like to go their own way and do their own thing and we meet back up to talk about what we did and said — expanding our knowledge and experience through the other. But sometimes we do it together.  We like to go out and experience all the world has to offer and we like to share that with others. And I also like to share my friends. Why?  Because they make me happy and I hope they’ll bring some starshine to you too.

Politics? I vote, sometimes, but I don’t think my vote will count.  I’m liberal or rather a fence-sitter. I’m not far right or left. I believe in freedom, innovation, cleansing and protecting the earth, democracy, personal choice, and not hurting others with our personal choice.  I guess I’m status quo. I’ll listen to others talk about politics but it doesn’t interest me much because I don’t think I can affect it in any great way and well, I don’t have any planets in the 11th so that’s likely to be the case.

I will spread the word about a movement or cause but I probably won’t attend a rally or march and get too involved even though the thought will cross my mind. I leave that up to other people.  Then again, there was a time when I worked very hard at putting together a show where underrepresented people (who normally don’t vote) could come.  It was going to be a show that had a multi-media component that made it ‘enjoyable’ to get involved in politics.  Because frankly, I didn’t and still don’t find it entirely joyful to participate in.  So that’s probably coming back to Jupiter ruling my 11th house.  Politics ain’t [sic] no fun for me!

And when it came to sports, I was interested in individual ones more than team sports but I did both.  However,  I naturally make a great partner player because I have planets in the 7th. I enjoy playing Tennis, Frisbee, Badminton, biking, and other sports that can be done with one other.  Partnership and 7th house relationships is something I do… 🙂

Transits activate anything it touches and transits are especially important for natives with empty houses, especially stellium natives (like me) who are ‘doing’ their stellium far more than anything else in their life.

North Node Sagittarius has been transiting my 11th house since April 19th, 2011 and it will run until fall of 2012.   For me, this meant reaching out to organizations and people (that ‘I’ shunned before) to help support my goals, dreams, and aspirations and being supported by these people because of that (you know who you are… thank you!). I finally found a sense of community . This experience  is also helping me understand what I need to become successful in my work.  Who my friends are and are not, who wants to help me reach my goals, what I stand for, and who I stand behind.

Generally, I just make friends and I don’t think about how they can benefit me.  In fact, I have thought about how I could benefit them.  And I have chosen friends based on enjoyment rather than how they can further my goals. But I’m now becoming more discerning in my choices.

Okay, well that was unexpected (how 11th house?! hehe).  Hopefully no one minds this narcissistic exposé!! *chuckle*

(A comment left by myself on Astrofix‘s article about the 11th house: Guess I’m not popular nor an icon nor will I become one. Oh well! haha I have an empty house.  At the end of the day, would I want to be famous? Probably not, unless I can do it without anyone knowing it’s me. But then my Leo Sun might get annoyed with having its Sun eclipsed. Oh, nothing is perfect but my Virgo side does try. 😀

I’m also incredibly uncomfortable being perceived as a ‘guru’ type and yet I want to spread spiritual truths… What gives? How annoying, eh?! Can I have it both ways? )

Part One: An Introduction to the 4th House, Fourth House Astrology Series

The fourth house is the House where we find our roots and comfort. It is the house of family, extended family, family resources, our past and our future, and it represents long term memory.

The fourth house is also the house of our childhood and our parents childhood and so-on.  It represents the circle of life and size. It’s the house of what makes us into who we are as adults and it’s our past that we like to keep private.  This is where we can find “Skeletons in the closet“.  It represents resources used to rear us.  Often it is where we blend into what everyone else wants of us.  We are not heard or recognized as individuals who have separate and distinct aspirations. This is the house of family, extended family, and family we don’t know about.  This is the House of “non-work” as we develop our psyche and make choices about what we want to become or settle into. It’s a water house that deals with the mother, emotions, instinct, food, housing, and sustenancebasic needs!

Within Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the 4th house covers Physiological, Safety, and part of one’s Love/Belonging needs.  This is a serious house dealing with security, responsibilities, and emotional well-being.

The 4th house is where we get nurtured so that we can become a success out in the big and difficult world (10th house).  This house shows how we were nurtured until our early 20’s (3rd Saturn Square & Uranus Squares Saturn).  Once we have proven our success away from our early conditions and family support or non-support, we go back to become an elder or mentor after we have self-acutalized and received public recognition in the 10th house.  This happens around 60 years old and this is when you make way and support the 20, 30, and 40’s in leaving their legacy and imprint on the world.

          Facts about the 4th House.

          • Ruled by Moon (Cancer). An Angular house.
          • House Axis: 4 /10 Polarity
          • Aspect / Planet – Sign: (Cancer) Moon Opposition Saturn (Capricorn)
          • The JMAD Swap: Moon Capricorn / Saturn Cancer.  Our parents or male/female care-givers. Cancer is in Sextile with Virgo (the 6th house) and Taurus (2nd house); therefore, these houses stimulate and piggy-back off of each other. The 4th house is also in harmony (trine) with the 12th and 8th house which completes the primary “internal and psychological” themes in a natives life.
          • Everyone has 4th house themes. This is the House of Ancestry (past) or when house ownership is taken, it can be viewed as The House of Nurture (present).
          • 4th House: Don’t see me and what was created before me. (behind closed doors) Tenth House: See me and what I have created. (an open door)
          • House Themes: Our Roots, Family & Parents or Care-takers, Heritage, Beginning and End of Life, Housing & Land or Farming, Food & Produce, Resources & Resourcefulness, Archetypes & the Universe

Personal note: I’m a psychic and occultist, by trade (Scorpio planet in the 10th).  My mother is a water sign and was involved with tarot and the occult and I come from a long line of occultists on my mother’s side who practiced in secret. My father is of an earthy and logical temperament with a conservative heritage who is /was focused on public / career success.  He was / is a business man and I went to school for business. My parents split when I was young so I was reared mainly by my father (unusual for the times). I have Saturn in the 4th — Saturn co-rules Aquarius!  If it were not for my father, I wouldn’t have turned my occult abilities into a business.  And if it weren’t for my mother, I wouldn’t have had the psychic DNA in my blood.  The 4th house contains information about both of your parents, as does the 10th.  As a side-note, I was raised on a farm for a good number of years and this very much relates to my earthy Saturn in the 4th placement. 😀

Part One: An Introduction to the 2nd House, Second House Astrology Series

The second house makes 8th house themes tangible.  It’s the house where spirit becomes or turns into matter. Where the 8th house contains the “Janitor of the Universe”, the 2nd house contains the “Janitor of the Earth“.  It’s where you can take your 11th house Aquarius (another fixed sign) dreams, shine them up, and manifest them. The second house is in your face, life on earth stuff. Money and Power. All-consuming physical expressions of sensuality. Your material possessions. The values that have become tradition and a solid part of what makes YOU.

            Stuff about the 2nd House.

            • Ruled by Venus (Taurus, co-ruling Libra).
            • House Axis: 8 /2
            • Aspect / Planet – Sign: (Taurus) Venus Opposition Pluto (Scorpio) The JMAD Swap: Venus Scorpio / Pluto Taurus. Scorpio is also ruled by Mars. Scorpio is in Sextile with Virgo (the 6th house); therefore, these houses stimulate and piggy-back off of each other.
            • Everyone has  2nd house themes. This is the house of  Your Stuff for Self or when house ownership is taken, it can be viewed as Your Stuff for Others.
            • Second House: From Me. 8th House: To Me from You.
            • House Themes: Money & Resources, Talents, Value, Self-esteem, Sensuality, Art & Beauty, Gardens, Possessions

             2nd House Themes

            • House of Money & Resources: Money you make through your own efforts and ingenuity. Makes concrete whatever it touches. How your investments and stocks fair and the degree of stability. How you spend your money.  The type of earning potential you have.
            • House of Talents: Talents that you have that can earn you a living or give you immense pleasure and fulfillment. Where we not only inspire ourselves but inspire others through our own talents.  Libra connects well with Taurus (both ruled by Venus, 2nd house) here in that there’s a partnership or bouncing off in this house and a mirror reflection with a twist.  It’s where one can look at the other, see a similarity and then create or be inspired to make something else out of it. To use their own talents that progresses your talent offered but in their own way. So it’s likely you’d never do or wouldn’t have done whatever they get inspired to achieve. Venus enchants, incites, and attracts others to your talents so others may see your talents before you do.
            • House of Value: What you value.  What is worth it for you. The kind of value you place on things and people. What’s important to you. What are your values that you can turn into substance?  As a Pisces NN in the 2nd, I have Virgo SN in the 8th.  Some of my values are accuracy, knowledge, quality, communication (Virgo SN conjunct Mercury 8th) camaraderie, compassion, understanding, acceptance (2nd house Pisces NN) of self AND other.  These values are spiritual at this point.  Turning them into substance may look like this: I like to speak the truth or my truth as it were and I value others doing this too.  I value speaking one’s truth. I like to hug people when they are in distress, if I think that’s appropriate.  I value physical expression. I accept and understand different styles of dress. I value clothing and how it tells the story of our body, and physical presence. On the subject of food (4th house, Moon), the 2nd house is where you like to eat out — the type of restaurant that you enjoy. It also reflects the type of drink you enjoy and for what reason. It also relates to the culinary arts.
            • House of Self-esteem: Self esteem is often wrapped up in what you do to earn a living and what you own.  Because of that, we find self-esteem in the 2nd house (as well as the 8th house, on a deeper and less superficial level).
            • House of Sensuality: This is the house where sex is a physical, and tangible experience. It’s where your sense of touch as well as sight, sound, smell, and taste come into the picture. How you want physical sex to play out.  How you express your sensuality. Physical sexual experiences that are memorable. How you get in the mood for sex. The 8th house is related to spiritually and psychologically intense, higher mind, and intangible sex.
            • House of Art & Beauty: What type of beauty, art, or things you enjoy. A love of physical art:  Performance, pottery, canvas, etc.. How you view old art. How do you want to appear?  Do you wear a lot of make-up or none at all? Are you have a classic or futuristic look? What type of clothing makes you look your best? The Culinary Arts… Arts of any sense pleasure…
            • House of Gardens: Material growth.  Your secret garden materialized. What you find beautiful and nurture or nourish. How your body, hair, face, etc ages. The outcome of cosmetic surgery.
            • House of Possessions: What you own.  What you are known for owning. The types of things you BUY for pleasure and to earn a living. Stuff bought here can be used for hobbies in the 5th house and with enough intensity and obsession (8th house) turn into a career (1oth house) or make you infamous / famous for it. How you treat and view old furniture, antiques, and stuff. Are you a packrat (hoarder) or do you collect and then disseminate? Do you lose your stuff or do you have it very organized?

Besides Capricorn, Taurus often acts as the ‘other’ traditional Father Figure. The father that spends more time acquiring things, making money, and not spending as much time with family though when he’s successfully blended pleasure with making money, he can be quite the family man — loving his spouse and children.  A father can be a he or a she.  A Taurus can be a he or a she.  Here, I speak of the ‘traditional’ male Taurus, the Bull (Wall Street), role.

I have Pisces NN and depending upon house system used, POF Aquarius in the 2nd.  I have a huge spiritual library and spiritual nick knacks (crystal balls, skrying mirors, tarot cards, etc.).  I consider these re-salable assets as well as items that can help earn me a living.  In fact, many of them do.  I have had nightmares of ‘losing’ these things when I wasn’t feel secure in my life.  At the time, I didn’t know enough about astrology to understand the connection — now I do.

What Does An Empty House Indicate? How is an Empty House Read? (Astrology, Zodiac)

              Inspired by Reader Sophia

What Do Empty Houses in a Horoscope Mean?

What is an empty house?  An empty house generally means there are no planets or nodes in the house.  For some astrologers, it means there are no planets, nodes, asteroids, points, or other celestial bodies in the house.

Having an empty house can indicate that the:

              1. house themes do not interest the native.
              2. the native might be directionless as it pertains to house activities.
              3. house themes are accepted by the native and they are happy with what is there.
              4. native feels they don’t need to do work on house themes.
              5. house themes, the native accepts, may not be accepted by those connected with the native in regards to how the native operates around them.
              6. native has nothing to prove in the areas within the house theme.
              7. native is satisfied and content and get their needs met through the sign on the cusp.
              8. native already embodies the fullness and richness of that house.  They already *do* the house well.

              Empty House Myths

Often there is astrological chat that if someone has an empty 5th house, they won’t or can’t have children or in the case of an empty 7th house — they won’t get married.

              This is not necessarily true.

This is what an empty 5th house can mean:

              • the native may not have a drive or overwhelming focus to have children.
              • the native might be very much a child themselves so they subconsciously choose not to have children of their own

If the empty 5th house native “won’t” have children, it’s often due to choice.  And if the native can’t have children, it’s often due to not feeling as if they can handle it.  Keep in mind, as astrologers, most of us are not trained and certified medical experts and any advice given is always with a spiritual or mental slant.  Natives ought to seek proper medical advice as required, desired.

This is what an empty 7th house can mean:

              • the native is easy-going with any rules of relationship their partner may devise.  In other words, they are flexible in serious relationships.
              • they can get into or stay out of relationships.  It’s a choice whether they commit or not.  There’s no overwhelming desire to partner.

Many empty 7th house natives fall into a serious relationship, contract, or other house related themes.  Even when they have interest in a relationship, they may not actively pursue progression of any potential partner.  They most likely won’t make effort to take anything to a serious level because wherever they are, is where they are happy to be — at all times.  Same goes for “divorce”.  You will equally find an empty 7th house native not actively being interested in divorce, once married.

How is an Empty House Read?

              1.  We look at the sign on the cusp.

The cusp sign will tell us what the native needs, desires, and does to express house themes.  It’s something they tend to be “natural” at and therefore do not pay much attention to it.  This is often why the native of an empty 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, or 12th house can really take advantage of a vocational astrology consultation to give life to their career and job options.

              2.  Which house is the natural sign ruler? What house contains that planet or luminary?

So if we have the 2nd house sign as Cancer and the Moon rules Cancer, the house theme is emotional and concerned about the past (for example).  Then find the Moon.  Which house does the Moon reside? Lets say it’s the 11th. That house is connected to the 2nd house.  It would then read as ruler of the 2nd is in the 11th.

The 2nd house is about values and money (amongst other things) and the 11th is about friends at a distance and organizations (amongst other things).  So having the ruler of the 2nd (House of Money) in the 11th (House of Friendships), we might say that our friends help us with money when we appeal to them in an emotional way.

              3. What is aspecting the empty house?  Check house positions — cusp degrees, especially on the angles (Asc. IC Dsc. MC)

              Synastry

Synastry between two people can activate an empty house of another.  So if one native (Person A) has Venus Leo in the 3rd and the other native (Person B) has Leo on the cusp of the 7th, Person A is essentially dropping their Venus into the empty house of Person B.   And what do you think this might cause?

One thing it might activate is a feeling of serious love for Person A when that person talks about everyday things or in an everyday manner, receives an email, phone call, or letter or during any short trips they might go on together.

Person B may become unusually interested in making more of a commitment to Person A than they normally would because of this “deposit” that has suddenly brought much wealth to Person B.

              What Other People Say

              Donna Cunningham / Skywriter |

An empty house is one that is not occupied by any planets at the time of birth. But this does not necessarily mean that, that particular area of life represented by the house is unimportant. Lack of planets indicates an area that does not require our attention until some point of life when some transiting planets visit it. Empty houses also relate to easy or latent karma, suggesting that the area of life represented is not a required subject in the present lifetime. Many empty houses in a birth chart indicates that the person needs to concentrate just on one or two specific areas in life. Find Your Fate

                Photograph © Andrew Dunn, 26 June 2005. Website: http://www.andrewdunnphoto.com

The fifth house is the House of fun.  The Fun House. Its natural ruler is Leo and it’s in the chart section of “private, other”. Its opposite house is the eleventh, “public, me”. The fifth house is where we bring others into our private world.  Where we connect with others for private pleasure.

Why is the Sun Under the Horizon?

A lot of people wonder why the Sun (the King or Queen of the zodiac) is at the bottom of the chart, under the horizon — under the radar. Well, it’s not really.  The astrological natal chart works in an unusual way.  The chart used by many astrologers, for natal interpretations, is called a geocentric chart.  This places the Earth in the middle of the chart rather than the Sun and the Earth represents you.  However, the way it really works is that the Sun is in the center and all planets revolve around it. This type of chart is called Heliocentric and why your Sun sign is the most important and talked about luminary (aka, a planet) in the public.  Because… You, my friend, are a Star!  And everything, every planet and house, is modified or gets touched and warmed up (or cooled down) by your Sun’s rays, power, and strength.

Further touching upon this subject… Because the Earth is in the center of most natal charts, the Sun casts its shadow differently and the top of the chart is the South and the bottom of the chart is the North.  Therefore, the Sun or the 5th house is in the North — which would make it on top.  And if we flipped the chart — the Sun would be near the 10th house,  or rather straddling the MC, the highest point of the chart. That’s why I say that although Capricorn is inconjunct Leo, they can get along in many ways. While one wants fame, wealth, and prestige (Capricorn), the other wants the perks that go along with that — celebrity, jet setting life, and wealth to have fun (Leo).

Going back to the topic of why the Sun is under the horizon… well, the Sun — like all fire signs — are me, myself, and I oriented.  They are about themselves and what they want to do. They have the confidence not to care much what others think of them (whereas Capricorn does, the natural sign ruler for the 10th house).  The 10th house relates to your image, how the public views you, your honor, etc.  Leo couldn’t care less.  Leo is here to take it all in and be whatever they want to be. It’s plainly no fun doing what others want Leo to do, following rules others set out for them (Heck, no! They’ll be telling you what to do).  Plus, Leo is a playful and self-directed sign. It doesn’t have the need to care about the public in that way.  The public, after all, LOVES Leo so nothing needs to be worked at there. 😉 They have already arrived! They are already at the top!

                Facts about the 5th House.

                • Ruled by Sun (Leo).
                • A Succedent house (second placement, second place).
                • Motto: I create
                • House Axis: 5 /11
                • Aspect / Planet – Sign:  Sun (Leo)  Opposition  (Aquarius) Uranus
                • The JMAD Swap: Sun Aquarius. Uranus Leo.  Leo  is trine to Sagittarius — 9th house (the higher mind, philosophy, religion, education, law, culture, long-distance travel) and Aries — 1st house (self, physical expression and health, initiative, winning & attracting, and how we enter and exit).  These houses are in harmony and connected to each other.  The 3rd and 7th house stimulates and piggy-back off the 5th house.  The 7th (Libra / Juno is about committed and legal partnerships, aesthetics, domination & submission, attraction and detraction, etc.), and the 3rd (Gemini — the lower mind, chit-chat, those that surround us, short trips such as marches).  So the 5th house is where we meet dates through friends, neighbours, co-workers, social networks, etc. with the outcome of dating and sexual activity often leading to marriage, a long-term commitment, and children or projects the romancers give birth to.  The types of activities the lovers and creators may enjoy include 9th and 1st house activities and the romancers or creators are driven by first impressions and the promise of creating new and exciting manifestations of delight.
                • Everyone has 5th house themes. This is the The House of One for Many  or when house ownership is taken, it can be viewed as House of  Many for One .

                • House Themes: Recreation, Creation & Procreation, Dating & Relationships, Arts & Hobbies

Who, what, why, where, when, and how?

                • House of Recreation: What pleasures us to do during our time off. Taking risks. Gambling. Arts & Crafts. What you like to do in your down-time.  Entertainment and drama. Very personal friendships that are intimate but not necessarily consummated as opposed to impersonal friendships that occur in the 11th house. A connection with this type of friend may revolve around a beloved shared activity or interest; however, this kind of friendship may not be long lasting. Holidays and special events.
                • House of Creation & Procreation: Children you may or may not have. Sex for fun. Projects you create out of a seed, egg, small amount of supplies and resources.  Conditions surrounding getting pregnant and pregnancy. The type and condition of children you can have.  How you’ll have your children.  Think of children as anything you made and that requires a lot of nurturing and that you will probably need to take care of for many years.  Creations such as a business or a long-term project.
                • House of Dating & Romance: How you like to date.  Who you like to date.  How and who we flirt with. Where dating leads you.  Who you date. What you consider romantic. Your ideal kind of date. What zodiac sign attracts you. What zodiac sign makes laugh, and brings you fun and play into your life.  Lets say you are with someone you love and are attracted to and they are a Scorpio but you have Taurus on your 5th house cusp.  They are may have another aspect that will emulate Taurus on the 5th such as Sun Conjunct Venus or heavy Venus contacts.
                • House of Arts & Hobbies: The type of art or hobbies we enjoy, create, or do. What you are talented at. Childhood talents that may not have seen the light of day as an adult.

Eleanor Buckwalter says, A strong fifth house can produce statesmen and politicians as well as athletes, educational and spiritual leaders, and fine artists. The correlation of politics, art and theatre explains why actors can become successful politicians and why politicians possess the skills of actors, for they need dramatic art to hold the public’s interest through an ability to entertain, interest, or excite and incite.

This also makes sense to me because the 11th house (opposite to the 5th and therefore connected) is a political one and many politicians have planets in that house.

You’ll notice something soon enough.  I embedded a lot of Louis Armstrong‘s songs here.  First, I found out what famous person had a strong 5th house and Louis came out on top and I recalled he sang.  So I looked up his songs on Youtube and I couldn’t believe how much 5th house magic I was listening to.  If you ever wonder what the 5th house sounds like, listen to Louis!

What’s in your fifth house? If nothing is in it, what is in  your 5th house cusp? What have you experienced as 5th house themes? Anything else you want to share about the 5th house?  What type of fun do you like? Where do you have fun? Who attracts you? Where can you let loose? It’s all in your 5th house, 5th house cusp!!

This house was actually enjoyable to do.  Perhaps that’s because I have my Sun and Mars in Leo and Gemini on my 5th house cusp. 😀 It was easy-breezy.

Part 3 – How to Read / Delineate a Birth Chart: Nineteen Ways to Read a Natal Chart

A natal chart represents the all of you.  And that all is complex and intricate, no matter how simple one may feel.  A chart contains your DNA. It’s a very private document.  A word of warning: If you are content being naked amongst strangers, then feel free to share your birth chart with anyone.  However, if you have a big need for privacy, be discerning with who sees your chart because if the person seeing your chart has any expertise with chart delineation along with an unscrupulous nature, it can do more harm than good to share it. Again, be discerning.

Below, I have listed 19 ways to read a natal chart.  These are things I look at when delineating a chart. I might look at other things but this is all I remember at this time.

A chart can be read for many hours, over many sessions, and years.  You’ll find that astrologers, who have looked at their chart for decades, still learn something new about their own chart. So when getting or giving an astrology consultation, remember that it’s a huge endeavor and one session is likely to just scrape the surface of your being. Therefore, starting a session off with some basic questions to be asked of the chart, is helpful in deciding where to focus your attention. Oh, and the chart will ask you questions back so don’t be surprised if a question is met with another question! We humans are riddles and puzzles, waiting to be solved and put back together.

Also note that, while useful, generated charts synthesize at the macro level but ultimately miss out on some important details and intuitive jumps that only a live astrologer (at this time) can delineate.

Here’s things to look at while delineating a chart:

                  1. What’s the chart ruler?
                  2. What’s the overall impact (Sun, Moon, Ascendant)?
                  3. Ruler of the x house is in the x house.
                  4. Natural house rulers and planets in the houe of its natural house ruler
                  5. Signs representing people and the activity connected to the native.
                  6. Check out empty houses
                  7. Public or private person? Other or me person?
                  8. What’s happening around the angles?
                  9. What element emphasis does the chart have?  Any missing or emphasized elements?
                  10. How are the planets connecting?  What signs are carrying out their plans? Aspect delineation.
                  11. What patterns are made with the aspects?
                  12. What’s the chart shape?
                  13. Any special emphasis on the personality such as a stellium (honorary second Sun)?
                  14. Any missing signs?
                  15. What house gives a second, third, or amplified Sun?
                  16. What conjunction is made between house ruler and planet (if any)?
                  17. What conjunction is made between house cusp ruler, sign and natural house ruler, sign?
                  18. What’s on the other side of the planet or house? Where’s the polar opposite? What’s it doing? Say Moon is in the 10th, then you have Moon Conjunct Saturn (very poweful) and Moon Opposite Moon (4th house, IC).  Or lets say you have Venus and Pluto in the 8th, Venus is the natural house ruler of the opposite house so it’s very powerful. Or lets say you have Pluto in the 8th and Venus in the 2nd — this becomes Venus Opposite Pluto, which is also the natural house rulers, and is a very powerful placement.
                  19. What is the native’s age?  That’s a quick clue-in to major milestones or “life transits”.

Number 19 is not really a part of chart delineation as it’s connected to looking at the native’s transits; however, milestones are themes that affect the native greatly and can alter their personality and psychology in dramatic ways so it’s good to pay close attention to that while delineating a natal chart. Which reminds, looking at the progressed and natal chart (at the same time) is quite helpful too.  And as can be known, reading a chart can take many sessions to unravel adequately.

Do you have another way to read a natal chart?

Astrology Aspects: How the Sesquisquare Functions – Part Two

Part One | Part Two (you are here) | Part Three

Below is what I have come up with notes about what other astrologers have said (thanks to links supplied by readers in the original document, now called Part One and a Facebook group discussion). My theory is not exhaustive, perfect, or anything like that.  These are ideas about the Sesquiquadrate’s meaning, wrong or right, as I contemplated on the symbols and pattern. Please test it out and let me know what you think.

                        Sesquiquadrate

135º Contains smaller versions of the Square & Semi-Square both of which fit inside a full-size square.  Add 45º to the Sesquiquadrate and you arrive at the Opposition aspect (see Astrological Aspects article).

The Sesquiquadrate is not as offensive as the Opposition; however, it has a similar “disconnection” within the realm of Square types (see part 2).  And there’s a subtle similarity to the 150º Quincunx as well.

Jan Bird says: 135 degrees is also, apparently, the best body/thigh angle for sitting, for your back (not 90 degrees) to reduce strain on your back. It’s also the total number of degrees an owl can turn its head in either direction. It can almost see behind itself. So in nature, the angle itself provides a solution.

A Sesquiquadrate acts like a “square against semi-square”, Might against mini-might, that dilutes both energies.  A smaller semi-square is trying to obtain relief from the smaller square but wants to get there on its own too. There’s a feeling of some common ground but it’s uncertain, and unsure as if it’s infantile since the Square and Semi-square types are full sized (grown).

Kira Astrology says: It can represent either a physical challenge such as a genetic imbalance causing a birth defect, or a it may represent a poor or untenable choice of behaviors.

                        Aspect Themes

There seems to be three main themes that come out of the Sesquiquadrate: Adolescence & Maturity, Abnormal Different Ability, and Unaccepted & Unusual Awareness.

And the overall theme (for native and other), to put quite succinctly, for this aspect is:  Unaccepted difference causes an unusual disconnect – basically, ignorance, a turning off –  rebellious ignorance.

And this ignorance causes unpleasant disturbance in the native and others.

The native pushes away from assisted maturation and society’s demands for socially correct behaviour (even if that behaviour is considered unethical or limits self-expression to the native).  The solution is to accept help from others and consider what society is telling you to do to cause success and find solutions that don’t go against personal beliefs, values, and desires.

                        1.  Adolescence & Maturity

Problem: The Sesquisquare reminds me of Saturn (which I see represented by the square) and Uranus (which I see represented by the Quincunx or Inconjunct) squaring off.  And oddly I have a Sesquisquare in my own natal chart connected to Saturn and Uranus. So what we have here is the young adult trying to make their own way and the old man saying:  You need to respect tradition.

Solution: The semi-square wants inside or maybe it’s trying to escape but can’t quite make it.  It needs some help to fully complete tests so it may mature but there’s something holding it back.  Mature outside support is needed whether it’s accepted or not. Alternatively maturation is necessary.

The Sesquiquadrate works best with another to resolve / combat problems to make up for the difference in size (maturity) or it needs much time to pass so it evolves on its own.

Kathy Rose says quite powerfully, clearly, and succinctly that the Sesquisquare indicates or “triggers developmental tension”.  So if the native has this aspect, it can indicate a need to develop, mature.

Another example: This aspect can be like Mom and Dad needing to maintain their COMPOSURE and wanting the native (their child) to do the same until enough time and space to “take in information”.  Your parents have trouble being overwhelmed with radical new ideas.  They need time to digest it.

Julie Demboski says: since the [Sesquisquare] is a component of the config Fist of God [Thor’s Hammer], I see them as a little harsher, generating a lot more stress than a semi-square, and a different kind of stress to a square-more emotional or erratic, perhaps.

Saturn-Uranus in disharmony, is like Authority-Rebel or Parent-Teenager or Teacher-Student. They are hashing it out and don’t see eye-to-eye.

Lua Astrology says: I think of it as a build up to an argument, a disagreement is about to happen unless the path is averted. Tension is building and something needs to be done before someone gets upset.

Leah Whitehorse, also says: ‘incorporation’ is definitely the word I think of when I think of the sesquiquadrate – needling, annoying and pushy but unsure of itself. (To me, this is the teenANGER who is unsure and immature but still attempting to assert itself in uncharted waters — Uranus!)

                        2.  Abnormal Different Ability

Problem: The Sesquiquadrate is like a disability (different ability) society doesn’t want to accept. It’s a special challenge.

Solution: Another aspect can be used as a crutch (resource) to solve the question (problem) or perhaps with the aid of a specialist or helper can be armed to handle the challenges that a Sesquiquadrate presents.

So we can get that feeling of wanting to break away and do our own thing but having to face the consequences of our parents thinking we are doing something that isn’t realistic, smart, or responsible.  And that supports what Alice Portman says in her article about Thor’s Hammer “Sesiquadrates give [get?] criticism from others” .

Jan Bird and I talked about the Sesquisquare behaving in a self-destructive way.

I really think the native with a Sesquiquadrate can become self-destructive.  Having said that, the word “self-destructive” can give the impression that the person is doing it on purpose. At least, it does to me but I may be sensitive about it since I have two aspects here in my own chart and I feel I don’t want to destroy myself but see that certain actions can be destructive to progressing in society and then yes, I’m being self-destructive.

Having said that, I have found the Sesquiquadrates, in my own chart, isn’t about being self-destructive, on purpose, unless we consider that wanting to express my individuality and share a different perspective from society (popular thought) makes it so.

That’s what I’m working out. I was born different and I go against the grain…. My aspects are: Saturn Sesquiquadrate Uranus & Neptune Sesquiquadrate Chiron — Oddly enough, I intuitied that Saturn Sesquiquadrate Uranus is like a Sesquiquadrate. A rebellion against established order…  But if I keep doing that, I won’t get to where I want and am destined to go… 😀

Jan Bird says: I’m picking up that they can be about behaving in a way that doesn’t “fit” with what society seems to approve of. Perhaps they’re about learning to live with that and be comfortable in the skin.

My reply: Yup, “not fitting” in to accepted norms. *nod* *nod* *nod* — For myself, I don’t want to live with it or be comfortable… with it. Why? Because I already live with it and I’m comfortable with it. hehe… Who doesn’t want to live with it or is not comfortable with it? Society… 😛

I have to adjust to society while being myself. *This* is the biggest problem I find. I want to do things differently and society says: “Nope, that’s not how it goes around here, speak when spoken too, and mind your own business” and then gives me a swat.

But I’m a fighter so I come right back. But over time, that wears thin. So yes, I could just “give in, give up, blend” or I could find a creative solution to getting the needs of society met while I get my needs met too. I prefer the latter. It’s a real challenge!

What’s the solution for not “getting rid of self” to appease society (which, come to think, is self-destructive too — destroying self for authority) but also behaving in a way that is acceptable too?

Finally got around to reading a link that Jan Bird left in a comment.  It’s from the forum of the School of Evolutionary Astrology.  It’s got to be, hands-down, the best discussion on the Sesquare.  I don’t know ANYTHING about the waxing and waning that they speak of and I’m pleasantly surprised they clicked into the “society” Saturn vs. Uranus thing but no one mentioned these planets at this forum.  I STRONGLY suggest visiting this forum.

                        3. Unaccepted & Unusual Awareness

Problem: After a discussion, with Jan Bird as excerpted below, I found a new insight about how Sesquisquare functions alongside the idea of the aspect having Saturn-Uranus energies.  Basically, someone with a Sesquisquare can see more than society can yet society is not ready to see it at that time. (Similar to Theme #2 – Abnormal Different Ability) So the Sesquisquare native is asked to wait or rebel and either scenario causes tension.

Solution: Learn how to get your message across that honours tradition (Saturn).  Be sensitive about others not being able to see what you see.  Present what you see, that is not easily seen, by illustrating what others can readily see.

Jan Bird says: Owl behaviour is fascinating. The ability to do this relates to having their eyes so far front, and needing to check wider perspectives for hunting/being hunted. So maybe having this aspect endows its owner with a wider perspective on the world … and makes them more able to spot danger. It’s someone who covers a much wider field of view, metaphorically speaking, than your average Joe/Joanna.

My reply:  I feel I see more than what many others see (it’s plain as day to me) and it’s not until I point out all the little details that it can be seen as clearly as I do by others…

However, my impression is that what I see, is “unimportant” and “irrelevant” whereas I think it’s potentially dangerous to ignore. :/ — I do find I’m more observant than the average Joanna (though a J named person can’t really ever be *average*, says my numerology self!! :)… to the point it can make me look *paranoid*… so it’s “over noticing” perhaps…

I also find myself being “revolutionary” and wanting to break down “old worn out traditions and ways of doing and thinking about things” and well, we know that isn’t generally accepted. Having said that, I have seen others achieve *revolutionary change within a society or community* successfully and the changes are welcomed with “open arms”, so it can be done… 🙂

And that’s where I’m at… thinking of ways I can do this without upsetting anyone too greatly, compromising ethics, or myself… I think that’s key…

Lua Astrology says: Part of you sees what you are doing wrong but you can’t quite see how to put it right. Others may reflect back the things you know you need to change but it’s something you can’t quite take on board, something you don’t really want to see. Something needs to be adjusted, shifted, changed or incorporated. (More of Lua’s reply can be found here).

So true and this is a paradox, in my opinion.  Both sides have a hard time seeing the other.  Both sides say or rather DEMAND:  Adjust or else!  But we can only control ourselves, so we can focus on self-adjustment while not losing ourselves in the process.

To sum up the overall solution or the native’s mission / karma…

Astrology Aspects: Sesquare, Square & Semi-Square Sample Delineations – Part Three

Part One | Part Two | Part Three (you are here)

                          Sample Delineations

Below is a comparison between the Sesquisquare (also known as the Sesquiquadrate) and the semi-square and square.  This is followed by what others say about Saturn square Uranus as I believe this an aspect that most readily suggests some of the challenges and solutions in the Sesquiquadrate.  I also say that this aspect has a Neptunian quality about it too.  That’s probably why I choose to delineate Neptune and Mercury (a lower vibration of Uranus).

                          Mercury Sesquiquadrate Neptune

Unfounded thoughts are unacceptable to society. You come up with fancy ideas that cause others not to take you  seriously unless tweaked or endorsed by an accepted authority figure or expert.  Having your ideas taken by someone else and made into something more acceptable to society.  A man before his time.  Inventions that are not ready for public consumption.  Dreams that are blocked from realization from the establishment — Pipe dreams.

                          Mercury Semi-Square Neptune

Occasionally having ideas that don’t work because they haven’t been tested properly.  Having a hard time figuring out a problem from time-to-time. Having flashes of insight then either forgetting about it or not being able to develop them into something concrete quickly enough.  Not digging deeply enough into a problem for fear that one’s ideas are just an illusion.  Giving up too quickly to find the truth.

                          Mercury Square Neptune

Spiritual thoughts are not in harmony.  Not being able to think clearly.  Thinking one’s thoughts are the truth without checking for facts.  Feeling confused.  Blurry concepts.  Being drugged obscures communication ability. Avoid using drugs (chocolate, food, alcohol, sex, etc.) to escape from distressing thoughts.

                          Square

90º Challenged, blocked, tension, discomfort, conflict, needed adjustments, stubborn, irregular, hang-up, restrain, restrict, shut-off, obstruct, thwart, pressure, stress, struggle.  Like Saturn. WizardsNet adds crisis, difficult to integrate. Astrology3D says struggle of two forces at cross-purposes.  Obstacles which can bring growth through concentrated effort. A Wikipedia article offers other keywords:  inhibitions, disruption, limitations, and inner conflict.

                          Semi-Square

45º Vacillates between square (see above) and inconjunct (see Astrological Aspects article).  Between Saturn & Uranus).  Digs. Can see both sides.  Off & on.  More off than on.  Flashes. Separate yet related. Like Pluto.

What others say about Saturn square Uranus

Since I can’t find any aspect delineation on the Internet about Sesquisquares, at this time, I’m posting some square contacts to help others get a feel for how I think the Sesquiquadrate functions…

                          Skyscript beautifully states…

                          Saturn squareuranus

The square between Saturn and Uranus denotes some sense of conflict between the urge to be independent, and the conservative restaints that appear to prevent self-expression. Maintaining a consistent sense of purpose is often difficult to achieve, and thus problems arise through alternating periods of seeking to preserve the status quo, and willingness to risk everything by radical and disruptive actions. Those born subject to this aspect are often very sensitive to perceived limitations and can react violently against them. Great personal control is needed to bring the best that this aspect offers – when usefully employed it can provide the means to stabalise explosive environments as well as conquer and destroy destructive and inhibitive situations.

Astrology In Depth also states wonderfully…

Saturn in a 90 degree square aspect to Uranusreflects a strong independent streak with a biting, systematic and critical overlook. Frustrations become more assertive, ready to bring about actual change. As of the square aspect this happens in a rather controversial, harsh way.

                          In the personality

When this aspect involves personal planets or points there will be an inner struggle between embracing structure and wanting to rebel against it and shatter it. There will be a willingness to break conventions in a blunt fashion so as to cause people to think. This is a frustrating aspect that reflects stupefaction between tradition and the new, a need to build new value systems and new outlines for behavior. There is a search after a point of balance between the old beliefs and new ones. Usually there is difficulty working with the system because of a rebellious streak that tends to create problems. The individual will be very opinionated and there may be a know-it-all attitude, a belief in the individual that he knows best how things should be done, however the cold nature of this aspect, together with the inherent frustrations can have the person exhibit some kinds of brutal behaviors.

This square can feel like a constant struggle between stability and change, peace keeping and conflict. Depending on the areas of the chart it influences, Uranus will constantly try to break through Saturnian established traditionalism, and bring out the new. Supressing either planet is dangerous, for if given free reign, Uranus will want an instant transformation, without any planned deliberation or protocol, whereas if Saturn is stronger, it will block the flow of change, prevent free expression, and suffocate the Uranian need for freedom, independence or individuality, causing him to ‘BREAK’ free, in unexpected and dangerous ways. To work creatively with this square, one might need to change it from a sword to a ballancing rod on the tight wire, where constant and due attention is given to both ends: Uranus is given the possibility to constantly drip in its visionary energy, sincerity and electrical magnificance through the careful, compasionate and attentive Saturnian channel.

Part 2 – How to Read a Birth Chart: The Twelve Houses of Our Lives (Astrology House Series)

The houses of the zodiac wheel. Natal Astrology.

The native upon hearing they have 12 houses…

You mean I have 12, TWELVE houses?  And here I thought I was poor.  Wow, what real estate! What can I do with all my houses?  How are these assets best used? Can I sell one of my houses? What are these houses worth? Do people live in my houses?  Am I a landlord or do I spend time moving around my houses — living, doing, and experiencing different things?

…Lets take a look at what it means to have 12 houses, in astrological terms.

In astrology, everyone has 12 houses.  How is that for equality?  Oh that would be too easy.  Not all things are equal, are they?  Some of us live in the same area but our neighbor can have a bigger house than we do.  And they may do more things in their house or be rarely home. Or maybe we need to do a lot of repairs on our house but a friend of ours seems to never have anything wrong going on in their home.

The figure below is a physical representation of our inner and outer world.  This is your zodiac wheel and it’s part of your natal chart.  This wheel can be used for many purposes; however, in this article I discuss its use for reading a birth chart.

Astrology Zodiac Horoscope. Description of twelve (12) houses.

Things to consider about the houses of a zodiac wheel:

                            • Each house helps answer basic questions about your life:  Why? How? When? Who? What? Where?
                            • Each house of the zodiac represents a part of our human lives that we play out.
                            • These parts are things we all experience in one way or another.
                            • Each house has a natural planetary ruler.
                            • I see the planets as having plans for us and the signs carry out those plans.
                            • You can have an empty house or you might have a full house (called a house or sign stellium).  And no, there’s nothing wrong with that.
                            • A pattern (connecting key houses) is revealed based on where the planets lay in your particular natal chart.
                            • A sign cusp and/or a sign (connected to a celestial body or point) within a house can represent an actual person.  That’s a spooky thing to discover.
                            • A house is contained within two straight lines and forms a wedge.  To determine the sign on the cusp ( house cusp) look at the sign that starts the line going from left to right (counter clockwise) from the inner circle.
                            • Depending on house system used, a house can spread over more than one sign
                            • Some common house systems to use are:  Placidus, Koch, Whole, Equal, and Porphyry
                            • I read geocentric charts.  This is where the native (The Sun) is placed in the center.
                            • As the Sun casts its shadow, East becomes West and West becomes East.  North becomes South and South becomes North.
                            • The upper half of the wheel (above the horizon) is where the native will feel comfortable sharing themselves with others.
                            • The bottom half of the wheel (below the horizon) is where the native is protective, insular, and often uncertain.
                            • The upper half is where we strive to go outside of ourselves and where we learn about ourselves.
                            • The bottom half is where we go within ourselves and what we or our family and heritage teaches us about ourselves.
                            • The east side is about us and the west side is about others.  Are you more of a ‘me’ person or an ‘other’ person.  Do you feel more responsible to yourself or others?
                            • We can read the chart as Public Other, Public Self, Private Other, and Private Self.
                            • Any celestial bodies or points near the angles (ASC, IC, DSC, and MC) intensifies the house objectives.
                            • Law of Proximity: The 1, 12, 6, and 7th houses will contain a mix of public and private approaches.  Vacillating back and forth with what we share publicly or privately. The 3, 4, 9 and 10 will contain a mix of self and others. Vacillating back and forth with what we share with self and other.

                            Delineation Example

What’s in or on (cusp) our house, holds the key to knowing: How, why, where, when, what and with whom?
Since everyone has a 3rd house and *third house themes, that means everyone communicates.

So lets say you have Pisces on the 3rd house cusp.  Pisces is ruled by Neptune and Neptune handles the affairs or office of illusions, magic, mystery, the intangible, the soul and spirit force, etc.  Neptune is the higher vibration of Venus (Taurus, Libra — the arts, music, etc.).

What plans does Neptune have for you?  How does Neptune want you to conduct yourself ? How will you carry out Neptune’s plans in how you think?  How would you communicate with Pisces on your cusp?  Well, you probably wouldn’t be exceptionally clear but that wouldn’t be on purpose.  And you would probably be quite poetic and magical in your expression.  Maybe you could be a poet or a singer? Or perhaps you communicate through vibrations, telepathy, or feeling.  Maybe you enjoy playing and sharing music. Possibilities are endless.

What about if you have Mars in your 3rd house and its sign is Pisces?  How would that color what was just talked about? For starters, Mars rules Aries (and Scorpio).  It’s a strong and forceful planet.  It knows what it wants and it doesn’t stop until it gets it. It’s very ‘me’ oriented and not always fair, though it does try (at face value, anyway).  Mars naturally rules the first house and by sign rules aggressiveness, assertiveness, doing, sexuality, masculinity, extroversion, etc..  But when Pisces is in the 3d house (unless an interception is occurring), Mars is probably ruling the 4th house.  So we would say Ruler of the 4th is in the 3rd.

With the 4th house connected to family and home we can gain some more information…

Given Pisces tends to be a soft, watery, feminine, and introverted sign — it doesn’t match up so well with fiery Aries.  In this case, perhaps this native is most comfortable communicating and verbalizing quite strongly, in the home environment or with their parents (especially the Mother).  Perhaps the native comes off as ‘dramatic’ and whiny or strongly artistic in their expression.  Or maybe they get into fights with siblings but don’t know how to get their feelings across in the best way to resolve conflicts.

To add another piece to the puzzle, the opposite ‘thinking’ house to the 3rd, is the 9th and Jupiter (Sagittarius) naturally rules it.  In this case, the native has Pisces on the 3rd (naturally squaring, by sign, Sagittarius but co-ruled by Jupiter), so Virgo is on the 9th.  Virgo’s natural rulers are Mercury (3rd house) and Vesta (6th house) so that will color how, what, where, why, and with whom Mars Pisces in the 3rd house operates.

Astrology can get very complex and difficult.  And this is why getting a professional consultation, connecting you to your unique life drama, will help you access the deep mysteries of astrology. For example, a report is unlikely to make all these cross-connections and then integrate the pieces of a puzzle into a whole picture.

Looking at the whole chart will reveal the whole picture.

                            * Even if everyone doesn’t have siblings (for example) they do have neighbors, co-workers, people or plants that are related to them in some way and whom they communicate at least a little bit of chit-chat here and there.

                                Sextile is 60 °
                                Square is 90°

Between these signs, there are 77° . There would be a 17° orb sextile, if that’s what it was, and most astrologers consider this too wide of an orb. I go as wide as 10° and that’s quite wide for many astrologers.

How do you know how wide to go? Trial, error, experience, or a professional consultation with an open-minded astrologer… ;-P

To get an aspect going here, lets look at harmonic aspects. The closest matches for your Moons are Tresemiseptile (77.142858°), Squile (75°), Quintile (72°), or a Binovile (80°).

Most astrologers don’t accept more than a 1-3° orb for the harmonic aspects and you are quite possibly ‘exact’ or close enough to having a Tresemiseptile between your Moons. I wouldn’t know that 100% unless I saw your charts and had the time to look at it more closely (pro bono).

I would say the energy you feel is like a square AND a sextile given the harmonic aspects above so it’s kind of cool that you added that into your question.

0° and 29° are considered special.

To me, the 29° Moon can behave like Aqua or Pisces. Aqua is cool, detached, and aloof and Pisces is emotional, sensitive, and attached. It’s quite the see-saw effect that Pisces already experiences in their moods as it is…

And what I will ‘also’ say is that the two of you probably have quite the spiritual and soulful, out-of-ordinary emotional and possibly ‘unexplainable’ connection… 🙂 Will it be / is it easy? No. But will it / is it meaningful? Yes!

                                Hope that helps…

My question is: Why are Harmonic Aspects Ignored by Many Astrologers?

I’ll break it down because I got a lot of Virgo in my chart but I am NOT a Virgo Sun… 😀

“As Libras get to know someone”
Libras may show an instantaneous “liking” to you and that they trust you and all that but they will pay close attention to you for a long time before they give themselves over. They pay close attention in how you handle conflict and how happy a person you are. It is not easy to snag a Libra who will be faithful to you because most people have a lot of ugly days and nights to deal with and Libra is not interested in that if it can avoid it…

“, nasty little traits like jealousy can rear their ugly heads”
Libras can elicit jealousy because they are so likeable, sweet, and charming and many people want to connect with them because they can brighten days. Remember? Libra likes it sweet so it’s going to do its best to make your days happy and you better get with the program or else. So inevitably most people who connect with a Libra will get jealous about their connections with other people…

“and make them duck for cover.”
They will hide and hope you can’t find them if you start acting jealous because they are not generally “direct” about what they do and do not like. They don’t like rocking the boat. And unless Libra is contractually obligated to you, it’s not going to stand for “unreasonable” jealousy.

“They can’t bear the dark side of human nature”
Libras like sweet things. Candy, beautiful faces, clothing, lovely art, thoughts…

“so they run whenever a Medusa or Cyclops shows up”
They run away from anything that is dark, scary, and monstrous. If it’s found in kindergarten, it will make them happy!

                                  “, and don’t they always?”
Yup, they usually do. In the end, always.

Libras are most compatible with their own element of Air because another Air sign is going to “get them and give mental space” and they will get along with the fire signs (also masculine) Sagittarius ruled by Jupiter because they are optimistic, fair, freedom-oriented, and expansive (amongst other reasons) and Leo ruled by Sun because they are warm, friendly, artistic, joyful, and child-like (amongst other reasons).

I didn’t mention Aries because Aries is the opposite sign of Libra. They have the same goals but go at things differently. Some Aries and Libras can get along if they like it “hot” and “clever”.

Keep in mind, this is Sun Sign astrology and the whole chart especially the Moon and Ascendant will greatly affect how a Libra reacts to things… So avoid generalizing and believing ALL Libras are like this… however, many are…

It can mean so much. For an accurate and rich delineation, the whole birth chart is necessary. A natal chart takes into account so much. For example, knowing how Venus aspects other planets, points, and house rulerships are helpful. By the way, where does Mars reside, what are the contact types, and what sign is it in?

Without this information, lets break this down and put it back together for *some” possibilities anyway. 😀

                                    Sample keywords:
Venus: Feminine, love, the arts, money, what you value, sensitivity, softness, fine things
Aries: Masculine, sports, assertive, innovator, self-expression, boldness, hardness, ruled by Mars
10th house: Public image, how people perceive you, career options, your highest aspirations

What can it mean? Exciting yet soothing career. Executive art director or gallery owner. Successful stock broker, banker, or financier. Fearless and loved by one’s fans. Dominatrix. Known for one’s masculine and feminine nature. Lawyer. Legal situations are eased. Public relationship with a wealthy, admired, or influential contact. Celebrity — Fear factor starlet. Fashion model. Dancing with the stars… Oh, the list is endless. 😛

                                      Experiences with Pluto Water

A blogger retells a story of their father’s experience with Pluto Water.

“My father said that he remembers it as a rather violent experience all around…”

My father pledged a fraternity his freshman year, and it was during his initiation when he had his first encounter with Pluto Water. His run-in with Pluto Water was one of many tales he told me a couple of weeks before I matriculated; and because of what my father endured in the spirit of “brotherhood”, I was turned off of the entire Greek universe of manic mayhem — I did not follow in his footsteps and refused to join a fraternity.

My father and his fellow pledges were blindfolded and driven to a remote area far away from campus. Still blindfolded, they were each forced to guzzle a bottle of Pluto Water. Then their blindfolds were finally removed, at which point they were told to find their way on foot back to campus. The active brothers drove away, leaving the pledges to fend for themselves with their systems ticking away like turd time bombs.  Read More…

It looks like this fraternity connected to Pluto Water /  Pluto and initiation subconsciously as Astrologer Hiroki Nizato writes in his blog,

So some pain can serve as initiation – the kind that will let you experience the depth of your soul through sheer terror, grief, or rage: in short, extreme, Plutonian pain. But pain without purpose becomes mere cruelty and abuse. To serve as an experience of initiation, there needs to be a sense of meaning and higher purpose to the pain. Read More…

I find that Pluto is my “re-maker”.  It gets rid of what doesn’t work, what hurts, and what hinders and makes way for a new solution.  I am able to shed my skin, so-to-speak even if it takes some time because of strong Saturn influences.  Pluto, for me, is refreshing and brings life: depth, meaning, and sparkle. Pluto doesn’t destroy what should survive.  Pluto gives me life and helps me rise out of rubble…  Pluto will protect you if you let him/her!

                                        About Astrology

Astrology (star study) looks at what celestial objects and points (Sun, Moon, Planets, Asteroids, Constellations, Zodiac Signs, etc) are doing and where they are positioned based on the the time of your birth or a specific time of an event (such as a marriage date, question about something, a move, weather conditions), etc.) and how that affects and influences Earth and its inhabitants.

                                        About You

Your complete horoscope / various charts (i.e birth/natal and progressed) contain your personal fingerprints, DNA, blueprint. It is a private and unique documentation of your whole life from beginning to end, before (reincarnation) & beyond!

Often, clients want to know about what’s happening now or in the recent past or future. I do not currently predict death, illnesses, or accidents (I may be able to provide a referral on who can) and do not work with matters of the body such as health. My focus is on psychological / personality understanding about yourself and those you care about, your daily activities that better or worsen your emotional-mental life, and opportunities and challenges you have, are, or might face.

                                        About Me

You may find a more knowledgeable astrologer; however, I feel my strengths are in delivering accurate, helpful interpretations and solutions that are uplifting, meaningful, accessible, and quick. I love what I do. I LOVE helping you.

                                        About Different Astrological Practices

There are many regional kinds of astrology such as Western, Eastern, Chinese, Mayan, Native-American, Arabic, Celtic, etc.. as well as methods such as Traditional, Modern, Hellenistic, Uranian, and areas of practice such as psychological, locational, geological, and types of charts or rather analytical focus to draw up such as Natal, Synastry, Composite, Solar return (what I currently practice), Horary, Health, and Forensic.

I practice western modern astrology focused on your personality, psychology, transits and how that hinders or helps your life with yourself and those around you. To assist with this focus, I draw up natal (birth AND progressed), synastry, composite, and solar return charts.

Types of Chart Consultations I Currently do

                                        • Natal & Progressed Chart Analysis (Based on your birth & growth): Personality & Psychology
                                        • Personal Transits: Predictions and insight about what was, is, or will be.
                                        • Compatibility (Synastry): What attracts and repels you to a person of interest and vice versa.
                                        • Composite: What is or will be the purpose of your relationship or connection.
                                        • Solar Return (Birthday Reading): What can you expect to happen this year in your life?

                                        About Consultations

The bulk of an astrological session is interpreting your aspects (how celestial objects and points interact with each other) that provide solutions or answer your questions.

As you receive your consultation I may be heard saying any number of these terms.

                                        Basic Astrology Terms

                                        * Transits: How the luminaries and planets are reacting to your natal or progressed luminaries, planets, and points. There are personal and world transits.
                                        * Planet: A celestial object that orbits around the Sun, is of a large enough size, doesn’t have other objects (other than a Moon/Moons) nearby, and is mostly (if not) round. Though this can be debated since Pluto and other ‘planets’ would no longer be classfied as a planet!  And for simplicity, many astrologers and everyday people will refer to the lights (Sun and Moon) as planets.  But they are not planets.
                                        * Dwarf Planet: A celestial object that orbits around the Sun, a smaller size, has other objects (other than a Moon/Moons) nearby, and is mostly (if not) round. Though this can be debated.
                                        * Asteroid: A celestial object that orbits around the Sun, is a smaller size, has other objects (other than a Moon/Moons) nearby, and is often not round.  Though this can be debated.
                                        * Star: It’s a ball of hydrogen and helium that emanates light and burns energy.
                                        * Zodiac Sign: Any one of the 12 signs of the zodiac (part of the animal belt). See below.
                                        * Sun Sign: This is what many people think is their zodiac sign.  And it is one of the zodiac signs but to be accurate, your Sun sign is the sign that that was in at the time of your birth.
                                        * Cusp: Is the point between two signs or houses.  A sign or house cusp is generally 5°.  So if you were born at 25° Leo, you would be on the cusp of Virgo as well.
                                        * Degrees: There are 30° in each sign.  The zodiac wheel contains 360°, a complete circle and almost the same as the number of days in a year. Every ° means something and it could be viewed as similar to the weather, in that each degree gives us something different — a different feel, vibe, and information on how to ‘dress’.
                                        * Aspects: I also like to call these ‘contacts’.  It’s when one planet contacts the other within a certain number of degrees or ‘orb’. See below what orb means.
                                        * Chart: Your chart includes the zodiac wheel which is a visual representation of your planets, points, etc.  A symbolic chart of your aspects. Includes degrees and other interesting bits.
                                        * Mercury Rx: When communication, thinking, electronics get muddled, confused, in need of repair. Also relates to the past and going over things.  Any word that starts with ‘re’ will get you in touch with this transit.  Repair, renew, reduce, recycle, etc..

In astrology, planets, luminaries, and asteroids have metaphysical and psychological properties.

Our rising sign indicates our physical expression. And it also relates to the appearance or impression we give to others (for appearances…), especially when we are not feeling relaxed. Sometimes it has to do with our physical traits.

For Sun Leo and Leo risings, their physical traits often have to do with their ‘hair’ being mane-like (big or out there in some way — can’t NOT notice their hair). In regards to physical expression, Leo risings are physically demonstrative, playful, charming, and seem larger-than-life. Their masculine energy is not contained at all. Their strength of character is palatable and they LIVE LARGE!

In your photos, the Lioness’ strength, jutting confidence, and playfulness is there but Pluto (Scorpio) and other ‘water elements’ (feminine) are very much present too. Maybe some earth as well. That’s because that while you put yourself out there, it’s like you pull yourself back in too. Extroverted, introverted. Feminine, masculine. Strong, docile.

You have a dark, mysterious, maybe even ‘sweetly dangerous’ look. Obviously you are beautiful. But what is making you beautiful and stand-out? Is it Leo or is it something else? There’s something a little intimidating about your look, dark, yet Leo risings are pretty sunny.

The Sun is your inner expression and what you share with people closest to you. If you are a Leo rising, perhaps you opened up and were comfortable with whoever took the pictures of you to give off the ‘water or earth effect’.

If we take into account your Sun and Moon, we’ll have a fuller picture of the vibe you’re giving off. What’s your Sun & Moon signs and which houses do they reside?

Also, any strong Libra, Taurus signs, or Venus aspects? I find you have a ‘gentle’, even ‘classic’ facial beauty on the dark, Vogue, sophisticated side. Trying to figure out what it is, astrologically… 😀

Update: Thank you for the additional information as it clarifies some things for me. Having Pluto squaring your ASC definitely alters your appearance. That’s what I was picking up — the dark, deep, and powerful Pluto mixed in with the Lioness. 🙂 Pluto will not let the Sun (natural ruler of Leo) outshine him. Pluto and the Sun (Leo) are both dominant and fixed and will not take second place to the other. It’s like a battle going on. This is both a challenge and opportunity. Having Scorpio on a Leo ASC can be like having a Sun Conjunct [or Square] Pluto.

I would say that Sun Libra is strong due to it being the Sun and in harmony in the 3rd house (Gemini, natural ruler). This also changes your appearance, giving you a ‘refined’ edge and you may been seen as someone who always has something to say (or sing) about something (generally pleasant) especially when faced with uncomfortable moments. 😀

To me, Venus Square Pluto can be like having Venus Scorpio, even if your Venus is Leo. So there’s a strong mix again between Scorpio and Leo in your make-up. Quite the war that can go on but that adds to your electric personality. 😛

A Cancer Moon being in the 12th adds to the feeling of mystery and softness, extroverted / introverted, and masculine / feminine. You’re luxurious, like expensive perfume!! But I also receive you as a complex individual that wants to harmonize incongruous elements in your personality. Astrology is a great tool to help you harmonize your life, feelings, thoughts, etc. as well as helping with self-acceptance.

Neptune is the higher vibration of Venus and I feel that your Venus is strong. I also feel having Moon Cancer in the 12th is quite a challenging placement but it’s also there to protect you. I could go into this more but it’s beyond the scope of the question and too personal.

I hope this helps you and I commend you on learning more about yourself. 😀
P.s. Any strong earth in your chart by any chance? If yes, what and where?

I read this somewhere- “A recipe for suspicion or interest too, if you happen to have a probing Scorpio Moon intrigued by the fact that your normally very keen sense about other people (what makes them tick, where they shine, where they are vulnerable, what they’re feeling) is being completely eluded by a 12th house moon person who is ephemeral, keeps slipping away. It takes a different tactic to catch this fish.” (edit by Jucy — I dug up the quote.  It seems to belong to: http://nakedastrology.blogspot.com/2007/12/living-with-and-loving-12th-house-moon.html)I feel this is very true. I like a guy with a scorpio moon and he is very perceptive but i feel i confuse him to. That he can`t really see\feel where he has me but at the same time he also knows to, but this “elusiveness” keeps interfering. Even i have a hard time understanding myself, because my feelings are so elusive, i also noticed i confuse a lot of people, i make them “unsure” of me.Very few knows how i really am\feel. But i do have a lot of bad neptune aspects to.Edit: the only one who knows how i am is my own mother. She is a scorpio sun, mercury and venus. Her sun, mercury and venus is conjunction to neptune she is very neptunian and she understands me .

The quick answer is yes, but you knew that! :PScorpio is ruled by Pluto and Pluto naturally rules the 8th house of other people’s psychic junk (amongst other things!) The Moon is ruled by Cancer which is naturally ruled by the 4th and is connected to karmic issues and skeletons in the closet (amongst other things). The 12th house is naturally ruled by Neptune and co-ruled by Jupiter and its sign is Pisces.Scorpio is Trine Cancer and Pisces.
So yes, there is friendliness, harmony, rapport, and understanding between a Scorpio Moon and someone’s 12th house.

However, this ‘understanding’ and ability to cut through the surface, would be the same for ANY strongly Scorpio signs or any signs that are strongly in the 8th house. So whether you are a Scorpio Moon, Scorpio Mercury, [Moon] Conjunct Pluto, or have a Capricorn stellium in the 8th house, it’s pretty much all the same. It’s the Scorpio and 8th house traits (for example, the desire to know what motivates others) that allow that person to see through (and more importantly, get attracted to) someone else’s 12th house.

The 12th house is one of secrets and the hidden self. Scorpios like secrets, a good mystery, and they like investigating and detecting. And as scary as it can be, who doesn’t want their ‘secret self’ exposed and known for what it is? It’s ultimately cleansing and because the 12th house is often under lock and key (even from the knowledge of the native), Scorpio and its determined force are one of the signs that can break-in or ‘see through’ and when it’s a Scorpio Moon it often does it in an emotional, nurturing, comforting, and familial way.

What Qualities Make a Good Practicing Astrologer Who Reads For / Consults Others?

                                                1. Passionate. Astrology isn’t for the faint of heart. It takes much observation, reading, learning, and doing. If an Astrologer is not passionate and serious about astrology, they won’t be passionate about giving a top quality reading, adding value, providing modern impressions and services either.
                                                2. Curious. Great Astrologers keep asking WHY. They will ask everyone, including you, WHY? Astrologers are not fortune tellers, they are life helpers. If an Astrologer has stopped asking why, their egos are probably no longer in check.
                                                3. Ethical. They do this work for the right reasons. They have standards of professional practice in place.
                                                4. Sensitive. There’s likely to be bits and pieces of your blueprint or DNA that isn’t considered lovely by most, including you. A sensitive astrologer does not judge or criticize; they understand. They don’t blame you and they understand why you see the world in the way you do.
                                                5. Progressively accurate. While it’s important for an Astrologer to possess common astrological knowledge, an Astrologer who truly “owns” their astrological understanding adds their own flavour of astrology to the mix. So they will be on page with what most astrologers will say BUT they have something new to offer that few to none have said before.
                                                6. Productive. They will not only tell you what is what, they will help you get where you want to go.
                                                7. Supportive. They have their heart in the right place. While they are offering a paid service they truly want to assist in helping you lead the life you want. They want you to manifest your dreams.
                                                8. Approachable. If a service provider is not friendly, warm, human yet professional in context, and most often light-hearted it’s unlikely you will feel a natural sense of rapport and be at-ease. Astrologers who have their ego and humility in-check can truly be there for you.

Tables Based on Thoth Tarot Deck

A lot of novice tarot readers are unaware that each card has an astrological correspondence and a reader can gain a lot more information from the card, beyond the pictures, by knowing the astrological significance and other ancient wisdom (such as the Qabalah / Kabbalah, numerology, I-Ching, etc.) that are the foundations of the cards.

While the astrological correspondences (in the tables below) are based on Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot Deck, I apply this to ALL Tarot cards as I read.

Horoscopes Within describes slightly different planetary placements based on the decans.  For example Thoth attributes the third decan of Aries to Venus while Horoscopes Within attributes it to Jupiter.  I say use your own best judgement when it comes to matching tarot with astrology.

The court cards are my own seasonal correspondences except for “All court cards can represent X or…”  which makes sense because it’s based on the first sign within the seasonal year.  So the first sign of the suit Wands — Aries, becomes Spring, the first suit of Summer is Cups – Cancer, etc..

Who will be your VALENTINE? Capricorn Venus Conjunct Pluto & North Node Transits

                                                    Lucky in love in February?

Venus (the planet of love, beauty, art, and money) is all wrapped up into Pluto (the planet of power, possession, transformation, secrets, and depth) from around February 4th to February 19th with a big bang on February 10th.  To add: The North Node (a point that expresses our future best self) continues to be in darkly sexy Capricorn and What does that mean for anyone with a Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, Pisces, or Scorpio Sun, Venus, or Mars?  It means you are likely to find yourself in a very karmic, hot and heavy relationship.  Whether that relationship is one you already have or one you are getting into, Venus and Pluto mixing it up along with the North Node opens up that love gate of destiny and that means SERIOUS COMMITMENT or RE-COMMITMENT.  This is especially true if Venus Conjunct Pluto is in your 2nd, 5th, or 7th houses.

Don’t know what all this means? Book a session so I can tell you about that AND your unique love life! 😀

Some of you love-hungry superstars may have begun to notice a little nibbling on your neck as of late and if you are looking to get pregnant, this Thursday (Moon in Taurus) and well into the weekend may be your lucky days! 😀

                                                    Not getting any love-bites?

This is a time to love YOURSELF then.  If you can’t love yourself, how can anyone else?  More importantly, WHY would anyone else?

Take this time out to enjoy and lather affection on to yourself.  Here’s some ideas:

                                                    • Spa treatment. Whether at home or at a facility.  Whether you do it yourself or have someone else do it for you, take some time to get pretty or buff and feel good.  Think pedicure, new hairstyle, make-over, massage (we all need touch!)… — Astrophiles.  This is very Venus.
                                                    • Girls Night In. Get all your single girls or friends together and have a VALENTINE Party.  Consider including one of my recommended psychics at 3 of Cups (http://www.FortuneTellerFun.com)  Encouraging, Uplifting, Accurate, and Inspiring Readings. — Astrophiles.  This is very Cancer-Sagittarius-Gemini.
                                                    • Love letter. Write yourself a love letter.  Corny, perhaps.  But seriously, this all has to do with LOVING yourself.  If it was your lover writing you a letter, what would you want to hear?  — Astrophiles.  This is very Moon-Venus.
                                                    • Romantic comedy. Sometimes a sappy romantic comedy – with a happy ending – can help you release emotions and remind you that you are not alone.  It can also bring hope through imagination that that wonderful guy or gal will come your way soon enough. — Astrophiles.  This is very Leo-Aquarius.
                                                    • Comfort food and drink.  A little bit of comfort food and drink can go a long way.  Moderation is key.  — Astrophiles.  This is very Cancer.
                                                    • Massage. This perhaps is not the right use of a massage therapist; however, when I was single I wasn’t getting a lot of “touching” from another human.  I was feeling sorry for myself that I was still single, then I got a professional massage from a lovely man.  It was just what I needed to feel physically loved and to the perverts (you know who you are 😉 there wasn’t anything sexual involved. :P  We all need to be touched!  So have a friend give you a rub down or book a professional massage. — Astrophiles.  This is very Taurus.
                                                    • Dream Lover. Help manifest your dream lover by writing down all the things you want and more importantly DON’T WANT in a dream lover.  If artistic or crafty, draw up or clip out your perfect lover and then store him or her away in a nice “wish box or bag” that will one day turn into a live (in the flesh) dream date.

Have an idea on how to love yourself while being single and looking?  Add your comments below…

                                                        The Professional Friend: Challenge #1

                                                        What is a Professional Friend?

A Professional Friend is someone who offers Intimate Services for a fee.  A Professional Friend connects with the client in a deeply personal way.  A Professional Friend can be a doctor, therapist, consultant, personal assistant, coach, GFE, etc.  A Professional Friend has something to offer you that a traditional friend can or will not, even if they are qualified to do so.

We can all make use of a good professional friend in our life.

In every healthy relationship there is a give and take, buy and  sell, you and me, etc. trade-off.  In a professional situation, a Professional Friend gives up focus on themselves to focus their attention mostly or entirely on you, your wants, needs, and desires in return for a fee.  This is no different from any other intimate relationship.  The form of payment with a Professional Friend is usually money.  With a traditional friend, you may help them with their problems and payment in return is that they help you with yours.

Challenge #1 – Client wants me to become their “real friend”.

I offer consulting, counseling, reading, interpreting, guiding, and teaching services.

Genuine care and wanting to help is evident to many if not all of my clients. My favourite subject is YOU! And I rarely talk about myself unless I sense self-disclosure will aid in my client’s learning and growth process. However, after awhile I find many clients wanting to know who I am on a personal basis.

A lot of my clients have expressed wanting to know me as a “real friend” to hang out and do “real friend” activities.

Lets take a look at why you, as a client, might feel that way:

                                                        1. My focus is entirely on you;
                                                        2. I give you my BEST self;
                                                        3. I’m talking about stuff you want to talk about;
                                                        4. Your friendships are lacking and frankly, how many aren’t?

If we were to be friends (in the traditional sense), this is how it would probably look like:

                                                        1. I wouldn’t want to talk about either of our troubles at any great length.  I’m kind of guy-like and activities focused in my private life.
                                                        2. I’m also kind of a loner.  I don’t go out much and like to spend time with my husband (significant other) or alone.
                                                        3. I wouldn’t be interested in giving readings, discussing metaphysics, etc. unless I knew you were involved in it to the extent that I am (i.e. professionally) or I’m learning something new and want to tell the whole world about it and practice it on everyone!! 🙂
                                                        4. I would give you my best AND worst self.
                                                        5. I wouldn’t be as focused on your world with such intensity.

While I may seem like the best friend you could ever have, in context I quite possibly wouldn’t be.  While I genuinely care about your well-being and growth, I get paid to focus on you.  If you paid me and all I did was focus on my needs, wants, and desires I think we can agree you probably wouldn’t want to pay me because it’s imbalanced.  As a client, you come to me for professional help and I get paid to give you that professional help.

So unless a client and myself wants to potentially ruin a perfectly great arrangement of me giving them the royal metaphysical treatment for a price, it’s best for me to stay professional yet warm and friendly.

                                                          Audio Player – WOW#1 – Assumptions

                                                          • Assumptions can cause misunderstandings, hurt, anger, and pain.
                                                          • 1. Perceive. 2. Assume, and 3. Validate. Most people forget #3.
                                                          • To assume is to think; to ASSume without checking for fact is ignorant.
                                                          • An intelligent person assumes.  A person of intelligence exhibiting humility confirms their assumption as fact.
                                                          • A person who is too busy, not present, looking for a short-cut forgets or does away with verifying their assumption as fact.  That non-action can turn into a grave mistake.
                                                          • Check your assumption as fact by going outside of yourself. In this way a respect for others is shown and error is unlikely.
                                                          • Assumption is the Conversational Introvert’s companion; Judgment is their Lover.
                                                          • 1. Listen (hear out) 2. Acknowledge (appreciate) 3. Question (respect) and 4. solve, TOGETHER.
                                                          • Negative arrogance comes from an ego who wants to know but does not.
                                                          • Positive arrogance comes from an ego that knows and wants you to know too.
                                                          • Confirm your assumptions before believing they are factual.
                                                          • Get in the habit of asking a lot of questions. Discovery is the mother of a smooth life.
                                                          • If someone looks at you as if you asked a dumb question, look back at them and say, “Will you be laughing if I make a mistake?”

Charlie Jane Anders says: “The internet is burning up with the news that the zodiac has been rearranged. There’s a 13th sign, Ophiuchus, and people who think they’re Virgos are actually Leos. What happened here? We talked to the astronomer [Parke Kunkle] who caused the fuss. What I Imagine

Is Ophiuchus the 13th sign of the zodiac?  Most Western astrologers say this constellation isn’t.

From what I get, Ophiuchus has traits that are a bit quirky, kind of Uranian like. Come to think of it, it’s not even lined-up with the other signs – unruly, I tell ya!  Could Ophiuchus be playing a joke on us since this constellation was discovered thousand of years ago and Western astrologers already ruled it out as being the 13th sign or could Ophiuchus be pulling a temper-tantrum?

Ophiuchus, the Trickster may be saying:  “I want me some fame and fortune! Give me some space in the light! haha”  or maybe Ophiuchus, the mischievous child, combines a bit of happy Sag and dark Scorpio with a side of sassy Libra thrown into the mix!  Take a look.  Ophiuchus seems to be setting out its foot and walking down towards Sagittarius to fit between Sag and Scorpio. Cozy, isn’t it? Is Ophiuchus like a child wanting to be heard, to belong?  “Let me in, let me in…” or is Ophiuchus testing us, challenging us to look beyond what we already know?

                                                            What do professional Astrologers say?

There are scholars and practitioners of Astrology and some do both.  My current interest is on providing stellar personal astrological consultations.  While I’m interested in research and knowing things deeply, I’m currently less focused on knowing how things came to “be” in the Astrology world.  I’m less focused on researching mathematical, astronomical aspects of the stars right now because I have enough to work with as-is and Astrology is a life-long study.  :)  So I leave the heavy stuff to the smarter and wiser astrological folks to learn from for now… 😉

Check out what my colleagues have to say:

Jeff Jawer said, “There is no truth in this, Western Astrologers use the Tropical Zodiac, which is based on the seasons, not the signs. Anyone who seriously researches the subject would know that.” Read more

Matthew Currie (a Sagittarius!): “…it turns out that “Ophiuchus” is a “Trending Topic” [on Twitter], which gives us something else to talk about..  Namely: why do you never hear anyone who actually knows astrology talk about Ophiuchus? If an astrologer made a crackpot claim about astronomy, no one would listen, so why does the reverse get all the buzz? … Read more“  Matthew also has a piece on Salon.com that goes deeper into the why and why not. Also check out Matthew’s radio show tonight where he will be talking about Ophiuchus.

Molly Hall says:  “Everyone’s talking ’bout the 13th sign today, Ophiucus, (O-phew-cuss) which is a very cool-looking constellation. To the ancients, it appeared to be a man holding two snakes — a two-part constellation pair called Serpens (Cauda) and Serpens (Caput). Its Latin name is Serpentarius — a snake handler! Astrologers already know about precession, but for thousands of years, the Western Tropical Zodiac has been aligned to the seasons (the equinoxes).  Read more

On Twitter, AstroSHayden Suzan Hayden says:
#ophiuchus refers to Precession which is old news.WESTERN astrologers use a different system: SIDEREAL an example of what Western Astrologers use nowadays. It’s a Sidereal Ephemeris. http://astrology101.com/ephemeris/default.asp. Western Astrology doesn’t use outdated system. We use Sidereal Ephemeris NOT #ochiuchus

                                                            What others say

Salon.com wrote an article about it too.
Interestingly, this article mentioned Leo at the get-go.  I’m a Leo and to be fair, I would be a Cancer with the Vedic Jyotish Astrology system.  I’m not sure how that fits in with Ophiuchus or Western Astrology but it’s something to look at.  As well, Chinese Astrology goes by lunar months which are 13.
I have a belief of the Law of Proximity.  That anything close to something else can take on some of the traits of the other as well as continuing to possess unique traits. Therefore both Vedic and Western astrology, in my eyes, can work in tandem.  There are MANY regional types of Astrology (I know of at least 8) and somehow they all add meaning and are accurate!

This is what Wikipedia has to say about Ophiuchus.

                                                            Ophiuchus traits.

                                                            A side-observation

Not that it probably means anything to anyone but I find it interesting that Ophiuchus and Oprah share the Oph letters and Oprah is an Aquarius who is ruled by Uranus.  My love of numerology and patterns picks something up with that. 🙂
