Part One: An Introduction to the 9th House, Ninth House Astrology Series
October 27, 2011 | Filled under Astrology, 9th, Houses |
How fitting that I should complete the Introduction to the houses on Thor’s Day! My first article in the series was on the 8th house. I have come a long way! Read about ALL the houses. Any article with the beginning of Part One: An Introduction is likely to be of similar style article as this one.
The Ninth House is the house of: Languages, Keynote Speakers, Toastmaster’s, Anthropology, Journalism, Publishing, Law, Justice, Foreign, Foreign Travel, Culture, Spirituality, Religion, Philosophy, Theology, Astrotheology, In-laws, Distant relatives and foreigners, Diplomats, Long Distance Travel, Long Duration Education, The Higher Mind, Higher Truths, Remote Viewing, Astral Travel, Logos, The Word of God, Satsangs, Gurus
The 9th house is where we find our Brilliant Mind — our genius!Â
And it’s where we expand our mind too — perhaps even through drugs! Drugs can be in the form of sex, herbs, chocolate, exercise — anything that gives us that high! So we can use drugs and mind altering chemicals (like endorphins released through exercise or sex) to reach the higher mind. Another example, is going for a nice long walk to clear our mind and get answers.
The 9th house represents both the student and the teacher and it’s where we learn but then take it a step further and begin disseminating and teaching what we learn, along with the 11th house. We feel confident and optimistic about our mental mind! Being connected with the 5th and 11th houses, the 9th has a political tone to it as well — as it relates to justice and the law being upheld — especially around human and legal rights.  This is one reason why Sagittarius gets along with Aquarius and Libra really well. The 9th house is about being socially fair, and unfettered by dogma though the native may have their own dogma that they follow religiously. In the 9th house, we witness long distance travel and communication around different philosophies, culture, and knowledge. We may travel to another state, province, or country to gain education in a land foreign to us so we may gain more than just the knowledge given to us at that school. We want to learn how the others live and whether we want to live that way too. We want to enrich our lives with all that there is to enjoy, see, and do. Education may be received at a distance, through on-line learning. The 9th house is where we take all that we learn, write, communicate, and publish it. Publishing is not just in the form of books — it can be blogs, journals, and perhaps even keynote speaking, teaching as a professor. In the area of religion and spirituality, there’s not a lot of boundary. As a 9th house native matures, they may do away with dogmatic religions and become agnostic or atheist. On the other side, they may get deeper into their spirituality at a grass roots level by becoming a missionary in a far-away land or creating their own religion / spirituality.
Although the 9th house is co-ruled by Neptune, I was having some trouble with some astrologers attributing the 9th to being the house of psychic and occult phenomena. I attribute those experiences to the water houses: 4th (Cancer) past lives / psychic heritage, 8th (Scorpio) occult / medium, and 12th (Pisces) angels / spirit guides / psychic dreams, cognition; however, I do believe in the Law of Proximity. Because of that, there’s overflow from one house to another. What I do see is that the 9th house (for example) takes or makes the experiences of the 8th and teaches, writes about, communicates, philosophizes, tests, and explores it in an enlightened and spirited way.
Stuff about the 9th House.
- Ruled by Jupiter (Sagittarius, co-ruling Pisces).
- House Axis: 9 /3
- Aspect / Planet – Sign: (Sagittarius) Jupiter Opposition Mercury (Gemini) The JMAD Swap: Jupiter Gemini / Mercury Sagittarius. Sagittarius is in Sextile with Libra (the 7th house) and Aquarius (11th house) therefore, these houses stimulate and piggy-back off of each other. It’s in trine with Leo (5th house) and Aries (1st house).
- Everyone has 9th house themes. This is the house of The Higher Mind or when house ownership is taken, it can be viewed as The Enlightened or Ascended Mind.
- Third House: Foundational Study. 9th House: Advanced Study.
- House Themes:Â Higher Knowledge, Theology & Spirituality, Philosophy, Reading & Publishing, Law & Justice, Long Distance Travel, Long Duration Study & Vocational Opportunities, Culture, Foreign People, Language
House of Voodoo & Sweat Lodge
9th House Themes
- House of Higher Knowledge: How you learn. How you teach what you know. Do you naturally enjoy teaching to groups or one-on-one? Inspired thought. Divine thought. This leads to psychic connections that we act out, discuss, and explore through the higher mind. It’s here where knowledge can be received seemingly coming from nowhere. Astral travel. University and post secondary education. Free-masonry. Secret societies that are not too secret or secret anymore such as Brotherhood of the Light — so occult societies, groups, organizations in which one can leave at any time — not a cult but on the fringe.
- House of Theology & Spirituality: In the 8th house, we experience the occult in a feelings and intangible way. In the 9th, we put words to and expand on those feelings and sixth sense. The types of spirituality that interests you. Astrothelogy. Mytheology. Venus rules my 9th house with Jupiter & Uranus in Libra. I’m very interested in Buddhism and religions that are universal. I’m also semi-agnostic yet believe in a higher power, life force, Gods & Goddesses, the planets as Gods, etc… I’m multi-religious, spiritual. So in the end, I create my own religion or spirituality. Art is also in the domain of spirituality and theology. It can speak volumes through not only word, such as elaborate poetry but also through image. Many 9th house natives are artists of some kind.
- House of Philosophy: Your philosophical interests. Your personal brand of philosophy. How you judge others. What you judge others about or what you can intelligently judge. How you philosophize.
- House of Reading & Publishing: What you publish, including: a thesis, book, blog posts, and advertising. The kind of desire you have to spread your word far and wide. What you like to read.
- House of Law, Justice: What you believe in. The level of importance that law or justice has on you.
- House of Long Distance Travel: The type of countries you would like to visit. Whether you visit alone, in groups, with a partner, etc. How you travel long distances. By boat, place, train, etc. The level of comfort you enjoy while traveling. The purpose for travel. How the people you meet during traveling affect you.
- House of Long Duration Study & Vocational Opportunities: Being close to the 10th and being the house of higher education (college, university, etc.) this house shows your educational aptitude and interests. Whether you will want to study at-home or abroad. The type of topic that may take a long time for you to study. For example, I’m very much into relationships and I have studied this topic since my early twenties. It never seems to end!! *lol*
- House of Culture, Foreign People, Language: The type of people you encounter and possibly marry or despise that are not of your ethnicity. People outside of your nationality that teach you something about yourself. The kinds of languages you learn, why, and aptitude for learning different languages. Languages include not only regional language (as is with the 3rd house) but higher languages such as hieroglyphics, tongues, tarot, Enochian, astrology. The 9th house contains your ability to speak multiple languages. It verbalizes, and communicates in an extroverted way — the 8th house. The 9th house is not an embarrassed house.

About Me
Jupiter Libra and Uranus Libra (not aspected) in the 9th
Jupiter in the 9th house
From Astrology in Depth
Jupiter in the 9th – Reach afar / explore the world — You’re unusually lucky when it comes to higher education, foreign travel and philosophy. You might travel far and wide, seeking the advice and insight of foreigners, or those with quite different backgrounds. You have psychic ability: vivid dreams and inspirations. You may study occult or religious matters. You could use this skill to help others and to guide them in their lives. You may be involved in conventional education as a professor. You could also be involved in religion, such as an established church. You may use your abilities to be involved in legal work, especially where it involves the theory of law and the drafting of legislation and jurisdiction.
In summary: You take any opportunity to expand beyond the limits of what you already know and believe. You are a true philosopher, traveling tirelessly in the pursuit of knowledge.
Uranus in the 9th – Crazy ideas / freedom to the world — Uranus, planet of radical ideas, progression and adventure. It is considered the modern ruler of Aquarius. Its natural house is the 11th house. In the astrological chart, Uranus is considered a “transpersonal”, an extramundane, spiritual planet, reflecting a function that is beyond one-self and beyond social structures. It does not constitute a part of the basic psychological make-up of the personality, but rather lends itself to whatever personal planet it is aspecting.
From AstroVeda, Vedic Astrology
Uranus in the 9th
Your thinking, ideas and philosophies are original, offbeat,
independent and unorthodox. There may be a desire to study
metaphysics or a fringe religion or foreign culture. Sudden and
unexpected long journeys are possible. Mental journeys in the form of
dreams, visions, intuition and prophecies are possible. Your mind ever
seeks to expand, gain knowledge and journey where it has never gone
before. Too much mental activity, though, can cause nervousness and
perhaps lead to a mental breakdown.
I have off-the-wall or rather — what others consider far-out ideas about teaching and learning a subject. The JMAD Swap and TarotSeek are just *two* examples. It can be hard for others to wrap their head around these very simple twists on doing something with greater ease because they are such a departure from what had always been done AND how could I come up with it? ;P
I blame it on my Mercury Septile Jupiter and Mercury Semi-sextile Uranus aspects.
